inthiscorneroftheworld i hold firm to the belief that kitchen fan girl is one of the best things to happen on the internet in ages and if you don’t know what i’m talking about… here.

the musician behind the video, Claire Boyer, released a full, raw ‘kitchen fan lullaby’ on spotify, and i’ve had it on loop for an ungodly amount of time. it feels so nostalgic — running through the backyard screaming as a kid, picking flowers, hiding behind mum in the kitchen because the boys have water guns and you don’t want to get wet.
i also hear the chirping crickets at dawn and a life under a mountain. i hear a deep sadness, an aching, a yearning… ANYWAY i wrote a little flash piece after listening to the spotify version for hours on end and here it is <3
forever (after ‘kitchen fan lullaby (raw)’ by Claire Boyer.)
This is the chirping crickets at dawn while the air is cold
and everyone sleeps.
This is the silence of the mountain I live under, the stillness of the breath we share.
This is the slow grief of falling in love when you know you cannot promise forever to anyone,
especially not yourself.
The only thing that is sure is the mountain. People will wake soon, and winter will crawl over the crickets,
slowly stealing the members of their orkestra. Silence grows until you fall in love and one day fall out of love. The mountain watches you lose everyone except
yourself.
‘Forever’ is shorter in the clear mountain air.
Here, everything is a promise. The song of the crickets had been left behind. Your tears/freeze
to your face as you promise to be only you,
forever.
This is the silent scream of a mother standing over her daughter’s broken body and this is the disappearance of the crickets. This is a promise broken and a life stolen. This is forever.
